Mucky Paws Pottery is the creative, playful venture of hobby potter Karen Irwin, situated in a picturesque olive grove not far from the shores of Lake Wairarapa, near Featherston.
The name derives from her trio of mischievous canine companions—Georgie, Basil, and Masie—who inevitably track mud between the studio and home, bringing a delightfully “mucky” touch to the work process.
Every piece produced is a hand-built one-off, meticulously crafted in either throwing or slab techniques. Karen embraces uniqueness over uniformity—she’ll happily design a piece that doesn’t match a perfect set, setting it apart from mass-produced pottery.
Her materials and glazes are chosen for both beauty and durability—all items are oven-, microwave-, dishwasher-, and food-safe, making them functional art for daily use.
