Simon King is a multidisciplinary artist whose studio practice spans both 2D and 3D media. His current two-dimensional work focuses on collage, combining printmaking, painting, and drawing to explore themes of identity, ancestry, community, and connection. In three dimensions, Simon works primarily with wood, creating vessels, joinery, and furniture that reflect his interest in form, texture, and colour. His pieces are informed by traditional Pacific Island techniques—shaped by time spent living in the Cook Islands—and inspired by New Zealand’s vernacular architecture and pre-European woodworking traditions. With over 35 years of artistic practice and two decades teaching design at secondary level, Simon has also contributed nationally to curriculum development and assessment. His work has been exhibited in juried shows across Aotearoa, and he has been a guest artist for the Wanaka Art Society. Simon is represented by Eade Gallery, Pea Sea Art, The Mandarin Tree, Mitchell Studios, The Art Shed @ Crab Farm Winery, and White Sail Gallery.

Sharing the open studio with Simon is his partner, Jenny Merton as well as Annie Doornebosch
